FAQ
Chloe has been doing massage and bodywork for almost 20 years. She spent many years as a PTA working in a subacute rehabilitation facility where she treated a wide range of people undergoing cancer treatments, recovering from cancer-related surgeries, and with those in different stages of cancer.
Chloe has experience working with those who have had minor to extreme surgeries, drains, tubes, wounds, and infections. Working in the subacute setting is what lead her to receive her credentials as a Certified Lymphedema Therapist, and become specialized in Lymphedema and other inflammation-inducing conditions.
Since becoming a CLT, Chloe has treated many people who are currently undergoing cancer treatments, and those who are in remission.
Chloe also became a Certified Cosmetic Surgery Therapist, which has further specialized her skills to treat those who have undergone cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries.
Oncology massage services and traditional massage differ primarily in their approach and techniques due to the unique needs of cancer patients.
Oncology massage is specifically tailored to the physical and emotional conditions of individuals undergoing cancer treatment, involving gentler pressure, modified techniques, and careful consideration of areas affected by surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy.
Oncology massage services often combines a blend of services which include lymphatic massage to minimize lymphedema and promote detoxification, myofascial release and massage techniques for sore or tight muscles, and scar tissue massage to break down scar tissue after surgery.
Traditional massage, on the other hand, typically uses more standard techniques aimed at general relaxation, muscle tension relief, and overall wellness without the specialized adjustments needed for those with cancer.
Lymphatic massage is beneficial for oncology patients as it helps reduce lymphedema, a common side effect of cancer treatments that causes swelling due to lymph fluid buildup.
This gentle, rhythmic massage technique promotes the movement of lymph fluid, decreases swelling, enhances immune function, and provides relief from discomfort, thereby improving overall quality of life during and after cancer treatment.
Lymphatic massage feels very soothing and calming, and promotes a sense of rejuvenation.
It is important that your oncologist is aware of your interest in receiving these massage treatments and allows for better communication between your oncologist and Chloe.
If massage techniques are not appropriate, lymphatic drainage massage is a great alternative as it involves very light pressure and can be utilized soon after surgery, with your surgeon’s clearance.
It is not common, but if you begin to feel sick during your treatment session, Chloe will stop immediately and take proper measures to ensure your safety.
